Deadline to register for State Primary is August 20

Town Clerk Tracy Kenney has announced that the last day to register to vote or to change one’s political party enrollment for the September 9 State Primary will be Wednesday, August 20. The Town Clerk’s office will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on August 20.

Voter registration forms or party change forms may be requested by telephone at 781-821-5013. The Town Clerk’s office will mail the form. Upon receipt, the form must be completed and returned to the Town Clerk’s office no later than 8 p.m. on August 20, or mailed with a postmark no later than August 20.

Those who are already registered to vote at their current address do not need to re-register.

The polls will be open on election day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The polling locations for the September 9 State Primary are as follows:

Precincts 1 & 6: Canton High School, 960 Washington St.

Precinct 2: Dean S. Luce Elementary School, 45 Independence St.

Precinct 3: Blue Hills Regional School, 800 Randolph St.

Precincts 4 & 5: John F. Kennedy School, 100 Dedham St.

If you are not certain what precinct you are in, please call the Town Clerk’s office at 781-821-5013.

Absentee ballots are also available for the September 9 State Primary. Any registered voter who will be absent from the town on election day during normal polling hours (7 a.m. to 8 p.m.) or has a physical disability that prevents him or her from voting at the polling place may request an absentee ballot. Voters may vote by absentee ballot in person at the Town Clerk’s office or request that the absentee ballot be mailed to them.

Absentee ballot applications are available at the Town Clerk’s office or online at the secretary of state’s website at www.sec.state.ma.us/ele. Upon receipt of the application, the Town Clerk’s office will mail the absentee ballot to the voter. The completed absentee ballot must be returned to the Town Clerk’s office by the close of polls on election day. The deadline to file an absentee ballot application is noon on Monday, September 8. A family member or a person residing in the same household may apply for an absentee ballot on behalf of a voter.
