News Notes: CFD extricates woman from TopGolf net

By

On Sunday evening, April 14, at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Canton Fire Department responded to a 911 call from the TopGolf facility on Dedham Street reporting that a woman had fallen into the net on the second floor of the hitting bays. CFD Engine 3 and Ambulance 2 responded. Also on duty were two members of the Southeast Massachusetts Technical Rescue Team, Captain Andy Morgan and Lieutenant Ryan Patrician.

According to Fire Lt. John Hutchinson, the woman had sustained a leg injury and was still in the net when firefighters responded. Fashioning a full-body “hasty harness” out of webbing and using long boards for stability, firefighters were able to extricate the woman from the net and lift her back onto the floor, where she received treatment from paramedics before being transported to the hospital. Hutchinson said this was CFD’s first extrication at TopGolf — a scenario that some firefighters had trained for prior to the opening of the facility.

NepRWA studying climate change and flood impact

Kerry Malloy Snyder of the Neponset River Watershed Association recently met with the Canton Select Board to update them on the association’s plans to study climate change and flooding impacts throughout the watershed, which includes the town of Canton. Snyder said that NepRWA will be collaborating with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council to develop a strategic plan for responding to a 100-year storm and will need the assistance of Town Planner TJ Torres as well as input from area residents. The two groups are planning to hold a public hearing in June. For more information, contact Snyder at snyder@neponset.org.
