Opponents of electric shocks protest at JRC

By

Opponents of the use of electric shocks as a behavioral deterrent staged a protest outside the Judge Rotenberg Center on Turnpike Street on Saturday, June 2. The protest, which grew out of an online petition created by a former JRC teacher, had begun earlier in the day outside the State House in Boston. Participants included former JRC staffers and parents as well as state Senator Brian A. Joyce and various disability rights groups.

The protest was held in support of a legislative effort by Joyce to ban the use of shock therapy in Massachusetts. The proposed ban has passed the state Senate and now moves on to the House of Representatives. For more on this story, click here or here.
