Vaughn, Bates lead trackmen to second win of season

By

Led by Jon Vaughn and Christian Bates. the CHS boys’ track team won its second meet of the year, 76-60 over Stoughton. Vaughn won four events including the 110 high hurdles (15.5 seconds); long jump (19 feet, one inch); and triple jump (39 feet, six inches). Bates won the mile at 4:38.9 and placed second in the 800 meters at 2:07.4.

Another big factor in the win, according to coach Ben Mattson, was Canton’s 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams, which each posted easy wins.

Other victories for Canton included Matt Sydney in the high jump (six feet) and Marty Fauche in the 100-meter dash (11.6 seconds).

The Bulldogs swept the high jump behind Sidney, Jared Hobbs (five feet, eight inches), and first-year high jumper John Garafalo (five feet, six inches).

Second place points were earned by: Hobbs, triple jump, 38 feet, eight and a half inches; Dan Alexander, shot put, 42 feet, two and a quarter inches; Mike Bronstein, two mile, 11:15.12; Jordan Guyton, 200 meters, 23.1 seconds; Chris Boughter, 100 meters, 11.7 seconds; and Nikita Amelchenko, 400 intermediate hurdles, 65.3 seconds.

Finishing third for the Bulldogs were:  Tom Kerikas, 400 intermediate hurdles, 66.5 seconds; Gautam Madineedi, mile, 5:06.9; Obi Nwankwo, 400 meters, 56.5 seconds; Cam Huber, 800 meters, 2:08.8; Tommy George, discus, 97 feet, two inches; and Julian Malbranche, javelin, 128 feet, eight inches.
