Jeanne M. (Scanlan) McCarthy, 87, of Dennis, formerly of Quincy, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2018.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Robert E. McCarthy. Jeanne was born to the late Michael and Grace (Thorne) Scanlan.

Jeanne graduated from Girls High School in 1948 and Boston Teachers College in 1952 with a B.S. in education. She began her teaching career teaching in the Boston Public Schools, and continued it later at the Gate of Heaven School in South Boston. She was a member of the St. Agatha women’s bowling league and volunteered for many years at Carney Hospital. She was an avid dancer and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially at her home on the Cape.

Loving mother of Marie L. McNeilly and her husband, David, of Norfolk, Robert E. McCarthy Jr. and his wife, Sheila, of Norwell, and Kevin M. McCarthy and his wife, Lisa, of Windsor, CT. Proud grandmother to Katie McNeilly, Christine and Bobby McCarthy, and Brianna and Allison McCarthy. Sister to the late Robert M. Scanlan, the late Richard J. Scanlan, and the late Anne Pushard. Jeanne was a sister-in-law to Joanne Scanlan and the late Clyde Pushard. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Sister-in-law of the late Sister Margaret McCarthy, SC, the late Sister Mary McCarthy, SC, Dorothy Cleary of Manchester, Eileen Trimble of New Carrollton, MD, Catherine Sheehan of Garden Grove, CA, Anne Chouinard of Manchester, Joseph McCarthy and his wife, Sheila, of Manchester, and the late Alyce Hope.

Visiting hours will be Friday, December 7, from 4-8 p.m. in the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 700 Washington Street in Canton. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.
