Gil was born in New Haven, CT, on December 9, 1925, son of the late Gilbert J. and Eleanor Griffin Cannon, Sr. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in New Haven, St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore, MD, and Southern Connecticut State University.
