Lawrence A. Gillis, 93, of Canton, died peacefully October 10, 2016.

Larry was raised in Dorchester with his two brothers and seven sisters. He was a proud Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 49th Infantry Battalion, 8th Armored Division of the 3rd Army in Europe. Larry fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service.

After the war he settled in Canton with the love of his life, Ruth C. (Eivers), for 63 years. He worked for Greyhound Bus Lines for 35 years and as a dispatcher for the Plainville Police Department for 13 years, a job he always described as a “gift from God …
