With three more wins last week, the CHS girls soccer team has improved its record to 5-2 overall and remains fast on the heels of Davenport Division leader North Attleboro. The girls entered play this week just one standings point behind the Red Rocketeers, who are 5-1-1.

Since losing to NA on September 20, Canton has gone on to win four straight games, beginning with a 1-0 victory against Milford on September 24. Last week, the lady Bulldogs recorded wins against Sharon (3-0), Foxboro (2-0), and Stoughton (7-1). The team has combined for 16 goals so far and has surrendered only seven, including four in the loss to North Attleboro.

The common denominators in the wins last week were the steady play of the defenders and goalie Katherine Doody and the offensive contributions of some of the team’s younger players.

In the win over Sharon, Hannah Link scored twice with assists coming from Julia Hamilton and Sarah Connolly. Tessa Cudmore also had a goal in the win, assisted by freshman Juliana Agnitti.

On Wednesday against Foxboro, Riley Duserick and Catherine Leonetti both netted a goal while Link finished with a pair of assists.

In Friday’s win over Stoughton, the Bulldogs were in complete control as seven different players found the back of the net, including Connolly, Duserick, Cudmore, Lilah Sullivan, freshman Morgan McCabe, and sophomores Sarah Collins and Lauren Fitzpatrick. Connolly, Cudmore and Leonetti each finished with two assists.

“It was a good week for us overall,” said head coach Kate Howarth. “We were able to add the finishing piece (on offense) into the equation. We have to keep building from here and improving. It was a solid week for us as far as results, and moving forward we should be ready to compete.”

Canton was due to travel to Franklin on Wednesday and will host Taunton in a Saturday evening contest starting at 6 p.m. at Memorial Field.

On Friday, October 28, the girls will head to Gillette Stadium to face Mansfield as part of a special doubleheader with the boys team. The boys will face the Hornets at 6 p.m. and the girls will get underway at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and may be obtained through the CHS Athletics Office.
