Body of missing Canton man found near Viaduct

The search for a missing Canton man ended in tragedy earlier this week when the body of John C. Cash, 59, was discovered near the Canton Viaduct on Tuesday, October 6.

According to a statement posted by Canton Police on the department Facebook page, Cash’s body was located at approximately 1 p.m. on Neponset Street in the vicinity of the Viaduct. There was no indication of foul play, police said.

Cash was last seen leaving his home on Chapman Street on Wednesday morning, September 30. Police issued an alert to the media later that evening and initiated an area-wide search that included the use of Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council and State Police K-9 units as well as a State Police helicopter. Police also reached out to the public directly via their Facebook and Twitter accounts.

In a brief statement issued on Tuesday, police thanked the media and the Massachusetts State Police for their assistance in locating Cash, who was a lifelong resident of the town. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time,” police said.

No further details were made available at the time the Citizen went to press. Calls placed to both the deputy police chief and the fire chief were not immediately returned.
