Burglars targeting construction sites, homes for sale

Over the last several days, Canton police have received several reports of burglaries into houses that are either under construction or for sale. The thieves appear to be after copper piping, which has been reported missing in the breaks. Police would like to remind the public to report any suspicious activity near unoccupied residences or construction sites and to call 911 immediately.

Sprinklers force Stone L’Oven Pizza to close for a day

Stone L’Oven Pizza, located at 8 Washington Street in Cobb’s Corner, was forced to close for a day after the sprinkler system activated in the restaurant around noontime on Monday, October 20. Firefighters responded and shut off the sprinklers. The restaurant reopened on Tuesday, October 21, following an inspection by the Board of Health. The cause of the sprinkler activation is unknown.

Firefighters respond to diesel spill at Reebok

Five firefighters responded to a diesel spill from a tractor trailer at Reebok headquarters on Friday, October 17, just before 5 p.m. Fire Lt. Greg Woodbury said 20 gallons of fuel leaked onto the pavement but did not flow into the catch basins. Firefighters used absorbent booms and Speedy Dry to help contain the spill. Clean Harbors also responded to assist in the cleanup efforts.

In another call on Saturday, October 18, firefighters and EMTs assisted in the MedFlight transport of a resident who was injured in a fall. The incident occurred on Meadows Avenue, and the MedFlight landed at nearby Devoll Field.
