James Joseph Hamrock, 84, of Canton, passed away in Cary, North Carolina, on July 24, 2014.

hamrockBorn and raised in Dorchester, Jim graduated from Boston College and was commissioned an ensign in the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War. He was a retired chief of housing programs for the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Jim became an avid golfer and a member of Wampatuck Country Club. When he wasn’t on the links, he enjoyed reading, watching the History Channel, fishing, and watching sporting events of all kinds, especially if his children or grandchildren were playing.

Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sheila C. (Moore), and his son, Stephen M. Hamrock. Jim is survived by his children, Cecelia Kennedy (John) of NJ, Deidre Moritz (Bob) of Canton, David Hamrock of Georgia, Judy Boyle (Pat) of NC, and Bill Hamrock (Donna) of Canton. “Pooch” also leaves his 12 grandchildren — Kelly, Michael, Kristin, Kevin, Sean, Joseph, Patrick, Thomas, Stephen, Kate, Jimmy and Jenna — as well as his brother, Bill Hamrock, and his sisters-in-law Mary Dunbar Hamrock and Jean Moore and brother-in-law Joe Lipscomb.

A funeral mass was celebrated Monday morning, July 28, in St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton. Burial private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Stephen M.
