Hansen Playground Renovation

By

Hansen Elementary School Principal Peter Boucher is pleased to announce the completion of a $22,000 renovation of the school’s existing playground. The final phase of the renovation — spreading 60 yards of mulch — was completed recently by a group of 40 student-leaders who traveled to Canton by bus from the 2012 New England Student Leadership Conference at Stonehill College.

“[The students’] help in spreading the mulch was the capstone on a major project; it allowed us to adhere to all safety parameters and open the playground up fully to the public,” said Boucher. “Parents and families of Team Hansen dropped off tools and equipment to spread the mulch. It was a huge team effort.”

Boucher, who was named the 2011-12 MIAA Wellness Director of the Year while serving as the Canton Public Schools’ wellness director, has participated in the regional leadership conference for the past two years. This year, more than 270 students from the six New England states attended the four-day conference on “leadership, citizenship, and chasing excellence.”

Last summer, Boucher brought student-leaders to the Hansen and Luce schools to spruce up courtyards and a playground area. This year, one group of students spread mulch at the Hansen while a second group pitched in at the Galvin Middle School.
