With key performances by sophomore Sam Riemer and senior Mike Reardon, the Canton High golf team bounced back from an 0-2 start to even its record at 2-2.

Canton beat Stoughton 162-191 and followed that up with a home win over King Philip 157-163. Head coach Jim Spillane said the win over KP was significant because the team achieved its goal of shooting under 160 at home.

Facing Stoughton at the Easton Country Club, both Riemer and Mike Lamir shot a 39 on a par-36 course to lead the Bulldogs, followed by Rich Nee with a 40 and Reardon with a 42. “It was good to get our first win and our first win on the road,” said Spillane.

The next day, the Bulldogs hosted King Philip and Reardon had a career day, shooting a 38. Riemer followed with a 39 while Lamir and sophomore Brian Brooks both shot a 40. Spillane said it was Brooks’ score that clinched the win for the Bulldogs. Also showing improvement was junior Gavin Monagle, who scored a 41 and 42 in the past two matches.

Spillane was hoping that two golfers would emerge who could give him consistent low scores, and he was pleased to report that he found them in Reardon and Riemer.

Canton was scheduled to play two matches this week — Monday at home against first-place Sharon and Tuesday against Foxboro — followed by an away match next Tuesday versus Attleboro.
