Wood, Sue A.
By Canton CitizenSue Ann Wood, who was known for her caring spirit and kind nature, passed on August 19, 2026, with her sisters by her side. She will be remembered with great affection by all who knew her, especially her dearest friends, Debbie McCourt and Susie Fortuna. Her life stands as a testament to quiet strength, devotion to family, and a genuine appreciation for the world around her.
Sue Ann was the beloved daughter of the late David Wood Jr. and Marjorie Wood Hoffman. She is very missed by her stepmom, Marietta S. Wood, and stepsisters Erin and Laurie. She was a devoted sister to Beth Scarlett of Sharon and Kristen Demeris of Sharon. She was greatly loved by her Wood and Hanna cousins, and she held a special place in the hearts of her mother’s family, the Hannas.
The niece of John and Nancy Hanna of Ohio, Sue had Hanna cousins she enjoyed seeing through the years. She was also loved by her nephews, Benjamin (deceased), David Scarlett, George Jr., and Kristopher Demeris. Her family was central to her life, and she carried her love for them with grace and loyalty throughout her years.
Sue Ann attended Canton High School and later continued her education at Fitchburg State. Her education helped shape a life marked by responsibility, intelligence, and a strong work ethic. She brought those qualities to her professional life, where she served as assistant to the judges at Suffolk Superior Court in Boston. In that role, she was respected for her reliability, composure, and dedication, and she contributed faithfully to the important work of the court.
Beyond her career, Sue Ann lived a life filled with activity, community, and a deep love of the outdoors. She was a member of a ski group in Braintree that traveled to New Hampshire, where she enjoyed the companionship of friends and time spent in the mountains. She was also active in the Unitarian Universalist Church in Canton, where her presence reflected her values and her commitment to fellowship and service.
Sue Ann loved running and power walking, and she found happiness in staying active much of her life. She especially loved animals. She doted on her beautiful white cat, Sweetie. The Woods kept Kristen’s horse Misty for many years on the property. Sue Ann loved the outdoors and would go walking with Beth’s dogs. These simple pleasures brought her great contentment. Whether she was moving along a trail, enjoying the fresh air, or sharing time with others, she approached life with warmth and appreciation.
Those who knew Sue Ann will remember her as a vivacious, kind, and thoughtful woman whose quiet goodness touched many lives. She had a gentle way about her that made others feel welcome and cared for, and her presence brought comfort and steadiness to her family and friends. Her memory will remain a blessing to them.
Sue Ann Wood leaves behind a legacy of devotion, compassion, and grace. Though she is no longer with us, the love she gave and the example she set will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her life.
