The Canton Citizen is pleased to announce its 2020 fall all-star selections. The full list, featuring 20 CHS athletes from six sports, appears in this week’s print edition as part of the Citizen’s annual fall sports wrap-up.

Boys MVP

Will Gefteas (Golf)

A junior captain, Gefteas made school history this season as he posted the lowest scoring average on record (37.3) while leading the Bulldogs to an undefeated season and a fourth consecutive division title. In addition to earning Hockomock Davenport MVP honors, he was a three-time match medalist and was also recognized as the MIAA Player of the Month in October. “Will had one of the best seasons ever at Canton High,” said head coach Mike Barucci. “Not only did he have an incredible season on the course, but he is also a great role model and leader for our team.”

Girls MVP

Maria Femia (Field Hockey)

This year’s Hockomock Davenport Division MVP, Femia was the Bulldogs’ best player and one of the best all-around field hockey players in the Hock, finishing tied atop the league leaderboard with 15 goals and 22 total points. Beyond her natural athletic ability, Femia also has a “great spirit,” noted head coach Chrissy O’Connor. “She never looks for individual accolades but makes winning the priority,” O’Connor said. “She understands that it takes the whole team to be successful. Her competitive drive and energy will be sorely missed. We look forward to watching as she continues her field hockey career at Bates College.”

Boys Soccer

Jacob Crugnale

A junior forward, Crugnale was the Bulldogs’ top playmaker and led the team in scoring with eight points (1g, 7a). Described by Coach Danny Erickson as a “quiet but fierce competitor,” Crugnale let his play do the talking and opposing coaches took notice, rewarding him with All-Hockomock and All-Eastern Mass. honors. “Jacob’s ability to eliminate defenders is exceptional and he has a chance to tear up the Hock next fall,” said Erickson.

Will Keefe

A senior captain, Keefe was a key member of a very stingy Bulldog defense and was one of the team’s ironmen, playing virtually every minute of every game this year. “Will was the offseason leader and captain during a very challenging offseason,” said Coach Erickson. “He motivated his teammates to train and get better and we saw the benefits of that in a successful season.”

Colton Mirliani

A human highlight reel, Mirliani was the Bulldogs’ leading goal scorer this season and he had a knack for coming through in the clutch, scoring several game-tying and go-ahead goals. “Colton scored a lot of long-range, brilliant goals and they were all important to results of our games,” said Erickson. “He’s a very talented kid and he had a huge impact on our season.”

Girls Soccer

Olivia Rodman

A senior captain and All-Hockomock selection, Rodman was a key catalyst for one of the league’s top offenses, finishing second on the team with seven goals and three assists. According to head coach Iris Senyonjo, Rodman played with heart, always gave maximum effort, and produced several big goals that were pivotal to the team’s success. “I coached her for only a season,” he said, “but I know she has given the school four great years and she will be missed.” Rodman will continue her soccer career next fall at Providence College.

Sarai Costello

A club soccer standout, Costello joined the Bulldogs for her senior season and was a welcome addition, contributing a goal and five assists. Coach Senyonjo described the Boston College commit as a “pure baller” as well as the “unsung hero” of this year’s title-winning team. “A lot of our game plan went through her and she was one of the go-to players when things were not going well in a game,” he said. “Her ability to play multiple positions on the field makes her an exceptional player and I am glad I got an opportunity to work with her.”

Elisa Diletizia

A senior captain, Diletizia was the Bulldogs’ leading scorer (10 g, 1a) and also demonstrated her versatility by playing multiple positions at a high level. She earned a spot on the All-Hockomock team, and according to Coach Senyonjo, she was a deserving all-star — “not only for her goals but also for her ability to motivate her teammates and for always putting the team first.”

Mia Gilmore

A talented midfielder with playmaking skills, Gilmore assisted on several game-winning goals and paced the team with eight helpers. Coach Senyonjo said Gilmore, a team captain, led by example and was always looking to create for her teammates even when she knew she could have the shot herself. “A lot of times we look at players who score all the goals and we forget that the player who makes the assists is just as important to every goal a team scores,” said Senyonjo.

Allie McCabe

A junior defender and all-league selection, McCabe was the leader in the back and had the most clearances on the team. “She has demonstrated great leadership and has been an example to a back four that has two starting freshmen,” said Coach Senyonjo. “She always made her presence known to the opposition and can only get stronger as a player …
