Six Canton police officers recently received an award from the Irish American Police Officers Association for their work and investigation into a home invasion in October of 2018. Canton Deputy Police Chief Helena Rafferty said the award also recognized several partner agencies that helped bring the investigation to a “fruitful conclusion.” The six officers were the first responders on the scene and thus received the Meritorious Service Award from the association. Also honored that night posthumously were Yarmouth Sgt. Sean Gannon and Weymouth Sgt. Mike Chesna, who were killed in the line of duty.

“That really drove home how fortunate these members of the Canton Police Department were on that fall day,” Rafferty said. “I couldn’t be prouder of their professionalism, courage, and dedication. Above all, I couldn’t be more thankful they are all safe.”

Besides the explosives charges, all three face charges of disturbing the peace. Deputy Police Chief Helena Rafferty said the incident involved disputes between individuals. No property damage was reported.
