Library presents free screening of ‘Alice’s Ordinary People’

By

The Canton Public Library invites the community to a free screening of the documentary film Alice’s Ordinary People with the film producer, Craig Dudnick, on Tuesday, March 5, beginning at 7 p.m.

Alice Tregay, of the Chicago Freedom Movement, was an unsung heroine of the Civil Rights Movement and her remarkable story spans the historic period from the marches of Dr. King to the election of Barack Obama. And her great contribution in the field of politics is the thread which connects the two. Dudnick will share how he met Tregay and how she inspired this important film about one of the most overlooked civil rights leaders.

Tregay’s life story reads like a history of the Civil Rights Movement. When Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. came to Chicago, Tregay and her husband marched with him. Tregay and her “ordinary people” effected extraordinary change for human rights.

Please join the filmmaker for a viewing of his documentary and stay for an engaging discussion. This program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Carolyn Elkort, outreach librarian at celkort@ocln.org.
