Both CHS outdoor track teams were hoping to get back on the winning track this week with a home meet against Milford scheduled for Tuesday, April 29.

In their last meet prior to April vacation, both teams were dominated by a powerful Oliver Ames squad, with the girls losing 98.5-37.5 and the boys falling 120-16.

The loss dropped the girls’ record to 1-2 while the boys are searching for their first win. Still, the silver lining in both meets was the development of the younger members of the team.

The leading scorers for the girls team were senior Rachel Campagna, who won the long jump (15’4”) and placed second in the triple jump (30’6”); freshman Selena Cho, who placed second in the 200 (28.8 sec.), third in the 100 (13.5 sec.), and third in the triple jump; and junior Alana Murphy, who placed second in the discus (79’9”) and third in the shot put (28 feet).

Other top performers included sophomore Catherine Song in the 800 meters and two-mile and sophomore Samantha Koplik in the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles.

In the relay events, Canton’s 4×100 team placed first in 54.2 seconds behind Lena Touzos, Masha Smirnova, Cho, and Campagna. The girls also won the 4×400 relay, just barely edging OA behind Hayley Mulford, Jenn Dever, Kim McNally, and Michaela Kelly.

Other point scorers for the girls included Kelly, 2nd, 400m, 62.9 seconds; sophomore Tamara Auguste, 3rd, 100m, 29.7 seconds; and senior Amanda Eagles, 3rd, 800m, 6:03.4.

For the boys’ team, junior Liam Collins won the mile (4:55.1) and senior Joe Clancy won the two-mile (10:55.1). Other point scorers included junior James Bourikas, 2nd, 200m, 24.7 seconds; sophomore Patrick Hession, 3rd, 400m, 56.6 seconds; sophomore Mark Clancy, 3rd, mile, 5:11; junior Kevin Wing, 2nd, discus, 90’1.5”; and junior Mike Salvatori, 3rd, javelin, 110 feet, three inches.

After the Milford meet on April 29, Canton will next prepare to face Stoughton at SHS on Tuesday, May 6, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
