Local musicians to perform at Newtown benefit
By Canton CitizenA local musical group featuring 15 students and alumni from the Thacher Montessori School in Milton — including five Canton residents — will travel to Newtown, Connecticut this weekend to perform in a benefit concert for the first responders to the deadly massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The Camp Kids, an indie rock group with musicians ranging in age from 7 to 17, will perform along with fellow musicians from Connecticut and New York on Saturday evening, April 6, at the Newtown Congregational Church. Performers from Canton include Isabel Johnson, Marc, Kyle and James McFatter, and Elana Matulis.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the families of first responders who were traumatized by the events of December 14. All of the performers have ties to Newtown — including Camp Kids’ bass player Taylor Langmead, whose father, Eric, attended Newtown High School and is close friends with a Newtown firefighter.
For more information or to make a reservation to attend the concert, call 203-270-8915. Donation checks should be made out to the Newtown Police Union and sent to Newtown Music Studio, 111 Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook, CT 06482.
