Monahan, Rosalie C.

Rosalie C. (Balsamo) Monahan, 85, of Canton, formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully at home on April 28, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Rosalie was the daughter of Anthony and Rosalia (Giambanco) Balsamo. Devoted wife of Joseph P. Monahan. Rosalie was preceded by sisters Tina Campagna and her husband, Bob, and Mary Dearborn and her husband, Ray, and brothers Charlie Balsamo and his wife, Bertha, and Sal Balsamo. She is survived by her sister-in-law Yvonne Balsamo.

She is the loving mother of nine children: Mark Monahan, Marie Monahan, Paula Adamson and her husband, Patrick, Peter Monahan, Vanessa O’Brien and her husband, Jeff, David Monahan and his partner, Katie Lowney, Vinny Monahan and his wife, Gina, Donna Monahan, Randy Monahan, and the late David Monahan. She is the loving mother-in-law of Eileen Calvi and Donna Monahan.

Rosalie’s favorite role was being a Nonna to her 18 grandchildren and her two great-granddaughters. She was also a loving cousin and aunt to several nieces and nephews.

Rosalie was a passionate Boston sports fan. She will be remembered for her amazing cooking, her knack for games, crosswords, game shows, cards, and trivia. She was always up for an adventure of any kind as long as it included her greatest love, her family. Nobody loved family more. She touched so many lives; to know her was truly to love her.

A funeral Mass was held Monday in St. Oscar Romero Catholic Church in Canton. Interment Canton Corner Cemetery. Donations may be made in Rosalie’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
