Canton’s Lanci named NEWHA Rookie of the Week
By Canton CitizenCanton native Emily Lanci, a freshman on the Saint Michael’s College women’s ice hockey team, was named New England Women’s Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 11.
Lanci notched two goals and two assists, was plus-5, blocked three shots, and went 15 for 22 (68.2 percent) on faceoffs in a two-game weekend series at Post University. During a 7-1 win on Friday, she turned in two goals and an assist, and her first tally gave the Purple Knights the lead for good. In a 4-1 triumph on Saturday, Lanci dished off one helper, was plus-2, and went 8-for-10 on draws.
More recently, Lanci had the Purple Knights’ lone goal in their NEWHA tournament opener — an eventual 2-1, season-ending loss to Franklin Pierce.
The Lawrence Academy graduate played in 22 games and registered six points in her first season at St. Michael’s. She is the daughter of Chris Lanci, a Canton High School alumnus who played hockey for Curry College.
