FBI seeks public’s help in identifying bank robber

The FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a serial bank robber, the Brim Beanie Bandit, who is alleged to have robbed four banks and one attempt in the greater Boston area from December 10-23. While a weapon has not been seen during the commission of any of the robberies, the suspect is considered armed and dangerous.

The alleged robber is a white male, believed to be in his late 40s or early 50s, and approximately 5’7” and 150 pounds. During the robberies, he has worn a dark sweatshirt or jacket, black pants, black gloves, and dark brown or black boots/shoes with a black and/or grey brim beanie cap. The Brim Beanie Bandit enters the bank, approaches the teller, and either shows or leaves a note asking for money. Following each of the robberies, the bandit fled the bank in an unknown direction. It is unknown at this time if a vehicle is being used for transportation.

To date, the bandit is believed to be connected to the following robberies:

* December 10: Attempted robbery at Bank of America, 740 Gallivan Boulevard in Dorchester, at approximately 10:56 a.m.

* December 10: TD Bank, 516 Adams Street in Quincy, at approximately 11:25 a.m.

* December 13: South Shore Bank, 1538 Turnpike Street in Stoughton, at approximately 10:40 a.m.

* December 19: TD Bank, 95 Highland Avenue in Needham, at approximately 11:37 a.m.

* December 23: Braintree Cooperative Bank, 1010 Washington Street in Braintree, at approximately 3 p.m.

The robberies and attempted robbery are being investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies, including FBI Boston; Boston, Quincy, Stoughton, Needham and Braintree police departments; as well as the Violent Crimes Task Force officer of the Massachusetts State Police.

The FBI is offering a monetary reward for information leading directly to the arrest and charging of the robber. Anyone with information regarding the robbery should call the FBI’s Boston Division at 617-742-5533 or the local police departments mentioned above.
