WWII hand grenade diffused inside home

By

Firefighters and the State Police Bomb Squad defused an old hand grenade found inside a house at 360 Chapman Street on Thursday, August 2, at 11:45 a.m. Fire Lt. Brian Marshall said the grenade, which dates back to World War II, was found while workers were cleaning out the home, which was recently sold. Marshall said the State Police used x-rays to determine that the grenade was not live and then disabled the grenade by cutting a fuse. “It was never at a threat of exploding,” said Marshall. Nearby homeowners were asked to briefly evacuate, and area traffic was detoured until the grenade was defused.
