William H. Greene, 80, formerly of Quincy, of Canton, passed away peacefully June 4 at the John Scott Rehabilitation Center in Braintree.

Born in Roxbury, he was raised in Dorchester and attended St. Patrick’s School in Roxbury and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School in 1950. He had lived for many years in Quincy before moving to Canton in 2006. He worked as a union iron worker at the Quincy shipyard for many years before retiring. Uncle Billy loved to sing and play Santa Claus for his many nieces and nephews at the annual family Christmas party.

Beloved brother of Herbert Greene of Quincy, Mary DuBeau and her husband, Ernest, of Mashpee, Rita Sullivan and her husband, Joseph, of Braintree, and the late Joseph and John Greene. Brother-in-law of Joanne Borek Greene of Quincy and Mary Canavan Greene of South Boston. Also survived by his longtime girlfriend, Kathy Gannon, of Weymouth, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was a friend of Bill W.

A funeral mass will be held Thursday, June 7, at 10 a.m. in St. Ann’s Church, 757 Hancock St., Quincy. Burial private. Donations may be made in his memory to the Gavin House, 675 East 4th St., South Boston, MA 02127. Arrangements by the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home in Quincy.
