Tri-Town PMC Kids Ride returns June 13
By Canton Citizen
Power Pedalers, Heavy Hitters and Breakaway Riders are recognized at the awards ceremony after last year’s Kids Ride.
Local kids from Canton and surrounding towns are invited to a morning of outdoor fun, achievement, and support for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at the 10th annual Tri-Town PMC Kids Ride on Saturday, June 13, at the Paul Revere Heritage Park in Canton.
Organizers are hoping to increase last year’s ridership and community engagement as they welcome friends, schoolmates and neighbors to participate or volunteer. Riders will decorate their bikes and enjoy upbeat music and snacks, play games, get their face painted, win raffle prizes, and take pictures in the photo booth. All participants will receive a t-shirt and goodie bag and will ride for up to 90 minutes while making new friends.
This year, in addition to each riders’ personal reasons, the Tri-Town PMC riders are riding collectively for their pedal partner, Liv S. (and team “Live like Liv”), who has completed her treatment program at Dana-Farber! Cancer has touched many of us personally in some way, and as a community, whether riding in tribute, supporting a loved one in treatment, or cheering on the kids doing their best, this event is a great way to participate and show your support.
An added benefit for those who attend the kids ride is seeing all of the smiling faces riding with determination and purpose. Each rider will also have an opportunity to announce who they are riding for and will receive a certificate of appreciation and other awards. WROR radio is planning to return for this year’s event to help keep the kids ride rock’n & roll’n on the beautiful Paul Revere Heritage Park campus.
Everyone is welcome! Little ones can drive scooters and tricycles on the yellow loop, while larger bikes can ride the blue oval loop and the longer red “Alex Young Memorial Circuit” around the park. Parents, guardians, or older siblings are also welcome to be “ride monitors” to keep riders on a safe and even pace. Those families living further away or on vacation can still register with Tri-Town and ride along virtually from your own neighborhood. Members of the Canton Police and Fire departments will also be on site to review safe riding habits and offer helmet checks and bike tune-ups.
PMC is a registered 501c3 nonprofit, and every rider-raised dollar goes directly to cancer treatment and research at Dana-Farber. This year, the Tri-Town ride is on track to increase its lifetime fundraising goal to over $120,000! This event would not be possible without the support of its many corporate and raffle sponsors (posted at kids.pmc.org/tritown).
Be sure to visit the Tri-Town booth at the Canton Heritage Festival (5/16) and Sharon Chalk Art Festival (5/31) for a chance to win prizes. And after the ride, stop by the Museum of Discovery & Innovation to explore one of Canton’s newest cultural attractions.
