First-time voter proud to back mom for Select Board

By

Dear Editor:

For as long as I can remember, my mother has believed that showing up matters. Whether it was helping a neighbor, listening when someone needed support, or working quietly behind the scenes to make things better, she taught me that real change starts at the local level and with people who genuinely care.

As a college freshman and a first-time voter, I’ve begun to understand just how powerful those lessons are. Studying history at UMass Amherst has shown me that progress is rarely driven by grand gestures alone, but by ordinary people choosing to participate. Casting a ballot may seem small, but it carries weight far beyond a single day.

That is why I will be voting on April 7 for my mother, Julie Beckham, for Select Board. I’ve seen her lead with empathy, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility to others. She listens first, acts thoughtfully, and always puts the well-being of the community ahead of herself. Watching her lead has shaped the way I see the world and the kind of person I hope to become.

I encourage other young voters in Canton to take that first step and make your voice heard this spring. Local decisions shape our daily lives, and our town is strongest when people who care deeply step forward to serve. My vote is an expression of love for my mother, but also of hope for Canton and all that it can achieve with Julie Beckham’s leadership.

To do so, pick up your absentee voting ballot!

Sincerely,

Charlotte Anne Beckham Clyve
