Canton Fire seeks help in digging out hydrants

By

The Canton Fire Department is asking for the public’s help in digging out the town’s fire hydrants that were buried in the January 25-26 snowstorm.

“All we ask is for a three-foot radius around the hydrant,” noted Canton Firefighters IAFF Local 1580 in a recent social media post. “If the hydrant is not directly at the road, a small path to the hydrant is appreciated. We are very grateful, and a big thank-you to everyone who has already dug out a hydrant for us.”

Firefighters respond to Milton house fire

Canton firefighters were called to assist at the scene of a two-alarm house fire that broke out in the afternoon on Friday, January 30, on Craig Street in Milton. Canton’s Engine 2 was dispatched to the scene, and off-duty firefighters were recalled to provide station coverage.

The fire reportedly started after the homeowner used a torch in an attempt to melt an ice dam at the corner of the house, sparking a fire that spread throughout the structure.
