Thomas, David R.

David R. Thomas, 68, of Canton, passed away on January 19.

David was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Marguerite Thomas, and his brother, Paul (Bud) Thomas. David is survived by his sister, Jeanne Thomas, of Weymouth, sister-in-law Cindy Thomas of Canton, as well as his niece and nephews, Mike, Chris and his wife, Colleen, and Katie and her husband, Enrique, and four grandnieces and nephews. He is also survived by Heather and Holly Souza.

David was born in California and lived in Japan and Virginia before his family settled in Canton upon his father’s retirement from the Navy. They relocated to Westport upon his father’s retirement from Kaye Instruments. In 2012 David returned to Canton to live with Cindy and her family.

Those who knew David will remember him for his kind nature, his passion for airplanes and airports, love of travel, and the pride he took in his workshop and John Deere tractor. David enjoyed meeting new people, and once he knew your birthday, you could count on an annual birthday card. Work was important to David. He worked for Kaye Instruments, American Dryer and Barney & Carey. More recently, he was proud of the volunteer work he did through the community-based day support program with Work Inc.

David’s family would like to thank Susan Crespi for her many years of friendship and support and the staff of the DDS Southeast Stabilization Program for the support they provided to David and his family over the past four months.

Friends and family are invited to attend visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, on Saturday, January 24, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Oscar Romero Church, 700 Washington Street, with burial at Canton Corner Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave’s memory to Work Inc., 25 Beach St., Dorchester, MA 02122, or The Arc of Massachusetts, 217 South St., Waltham, MA 02453.
