The juvenile suspect in last Monday’s shooting at the Lamplighter Village apartment complex is facing a long list of charges — including several felonies — in connection with the alleged crime. In addition to attempted murder, the 16-year-old suspect has also been charged with aggravated assault and battery with serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, mayhem, possession of a large capacity firearm in a felony, possession of a large capacity firearm or feeding device, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and discharge of a firearm near a highway.

The incident took place at approximately 6:40 p.m. on December 15 in the parking lot of the complex, located off Route 138 near the Stoughton line. Interim Police Chief Joseph Perkins said the victim, a female in her 20s, had been waiting inside a vehicle with another individual when the suspect approached with a dark handgun and opened fire. The other person in the car, who was seated on the passenger side, was not injured.

After an extensive manhunt involving numerous police agencies, the suspect was taken into custody without incident the next morning following a search of a Canton residence in coordination with the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council’s SWAT team. The victim in the shooting sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital to undergo emergency surgery.

MV crash injures 3, causes fire at gas station

Three people were hospitalized and one vehicle caught fire after crashing into a gas pump following a multi-car crash in the Cobb’s Corner area last Wednesday, December 17. Emergency personnel from Stoughton, Canton and Sharon responded to the scene of the accident, which occurred around 6 a.m. on Sharon Street in Stoughton, just past the Canton town line. A total of three vehicles were involved, and as a result of the collision, one of them lost control and went over the curb into the parking lot of Seasons Corner Market, crashing into one of the gas pumps.

According to a statement from the Stoughton Police, the gas pump’s fire suppression system managed to control some of the fire, and the remaining fire was quickly extinguished by Stoughton firefighters.

While the driver of the vehicle that hit the gas pump was not injured, the driver of the second car and two of the three occupants in the third car were transported to area hospitals with injuries that were not believed to be serious. Sharon Street was briefly closed following the crash, and the incident remains under investigation.
