Open house set for January 4

A new state-of-the-art indoor athletic training facility is opening its doors in Canton, offering local youth athletes a place to train, grow, and develop year-round. On Base Performance (OBP), located at 28 Draper Lane, is a premier private indoor multi-sport facility designed to support athlete development while strengthening the local sports community.

Spanning 8,700 square feet, OBP features fully climate controlled caged turf that can be configured into seven individual training cages or a full 100×60 turf floor. The space is professionally equipped with advanced technology, including baseball and softball performance systems, pitching machines, and in-cage video recording that allows athletes to take their training sessions home for review. While built primarily with a baseball/softball theme, the floor can be transitioned into space for field hockey, soccer, and lacrosse within minutes.

In addition to turf training, OBP includes a 1,000-square-foot strength and conditioning area known as the “Performance Pit.” The space is outfitted with a full weight rack, medicine balls, kettlebells, and resistance bands to support comprehensive athletic development. This is not a commercial gym space; it is designed to support strength and conditioning focus for young developing athletes.

OBP is also excited to announce a new partnership with Canton Parks & Recreation. This collaboration will expand indoor programming opportunities for the community, offering youth sports, skill-building clinics, fitness programs, and recreational activities for all ages throughout the year — rain or shine.

Families are welcomed into a comfortable, 800-square-foot waiting area featuring ample seating, professionally maintained restrooms, multiple televisions streaming sports and music, vending machine for snacks and drinks, and convenient device-charging stations.

On Base Performance will host an open house on Sunday, January 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The facility is located at 28 Draper Lane at the rear of the complex. Visitors are encouraged to tour the space, meet the owners, and learn more about upcoming programs.

OBP is a family-run business and a longtime dream realized by co-owners Matthew Lowney and Robert Giglio, both proud Canton residents. The facility is deeply rooted in Canton and dedicated to serving local athletes of all ages.

Lowney, a Canton resident of 10 years, brings extensive experience in operations, construction, and logistics. Growing up in a family rooted in the local trades and now watching his own child develop through sports, Lowney says opening OBP allows him to combine his professional background with his passion for youth development.

Giglio is a lifelong Canton resident and longtime volunteer in the local sports community. After years of coaching and serving on the Canton Little League Board, he saw firsthand the need for accessible indoor training space.

“Growing up, we didn’t have many places to train year-round,” Giglio said. “This facility is something I’m proud to provide for my children and for the next generation of Canton athletes.”

On Base Performance aims to be more than a training facility; it is a community hub dedicated to helping young athletes build skills, confidence, and a love for the game.
