Suspects charged in late-night crash, B&E case

A 30-year-old Cambridge woman is facing an assortment of charges in connection with a motor vehicle crash that occurred on the grounds of Canton High School during the overnight hours on December 1-2. Deputy Police Chief Patty Sherrill said the driver crashed into the fence at Memorial Field, causing significant damage. As a result of the debris left at the scene along with video footage evidence, Officer Ensley Cotard, who is also the school resource officer at CHS, was able to identify the driver. She will be summoned to court to face charges including negligent operation of a motor vehicle; wanton destruction of property over $1,200; and leaving the scene of property damage.
Canton man charged with B&E
Police said a vigilant resident of the Hagan Court senior housing complex helped to stop a crime in progress after observing a male suspect remove the screen from one of the windows in a laundry room and enter the building. The resident called 911 to report the suspicious behavior on Thursday afternoon, December 4, and when officers arrived, they found the man locked inside a bathroom. The suspect, a 20-year-old resident of Kinsley Place, was arrested without incident and charged with breaking and entering (misdemeanor) and trespassing.
Police probe locker break-in at Ice House
The Canton Police Department has identified a Florida man as a suspect in a locker burglary that was reported last week by two referees at the Canton Ice House on North Street. Both referees reported having their cell phones stolen, along with money and credit cards, after their lockers were broken into on Friday afternoon, December 5, at approximately 2:15 p.m. Deputy Police Chief Patty Sherrill said the suspect is an 18-year-old man from Weston, Florida, and charges are pending as detectives continue to collect evidence in the case.
Town admin shares update on police chief search
Town Administrator Charles Doody reported that candidate assessments are ongoing in the search for the town’s next permanent police chief and they should be completed this month. The assessment process is being spearheaded by Public Safety Consultants (PSC), a Massachusetts-based consulting firm, and according to Doody, they are drawing from comments received from a prior public hearing and an online survey to formulate interview questions for the finalists. Doody said his goal is to have two candidates to present to the Select Board for final interviews in January …
