Paul Brendan Carroll, 84, prominent lawyer and proud native son of Canton, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025, after a lengthy illness.

Paul was the youngest child of the late Frank J. Carroll, former attorney and Canton selectman for several years, and the late Norma Ahearn Carroll. Paul attended and graduated from Canton High School, Stonehill College, and Boston University School of Law.

Paul practiced law, serving the town and the Canton community for many years. He was the past chairman of the Canton Zoning Board of Appeals for over 25 years and was recognized for his service with a room dedicated to him in the town hall. Paul was also a past Canton High School teacher and a member of the town of Canton Library Board. He served as chairman of the Norfolk County Bar Association. Paul was also a veteran, serving in the United States Army Reserves. He enjoyed being a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, as well. Throughout his career, Paul helped many people who respected him for his knowledge of the law and his unwavering positive attitude.

Devoted husband of John T. O’Connor of Hingham, Paul is also survived by his sister, Miriam Carroll Woods and her husband, Donald, of NY, and his brother Kevin Carroll of Walpole. He is predeceased by his brother Frank Carroll. Paul is also survived by his sisters-in-law Gail O’Connor and Ritamarie O’Connor Benoit. He is adored by his loving nieces and nephews: Christine Carroll, Brian Carroll, Erin Carroll Manning, Rachel Woods Dillon, Jeffrey Woods, Brendan Carroll, Miriam Carroll Fenton, Zachary Benoit, and Madison Benoit Obuchowski. Paul’s memory will be cherished by all who loved him. The family extends its undying gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at the Linden Ponds community in Hingham.

Visiting hours will be private. A Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Oscar Romero Catholic Church, 700 Washington Street in Canton, on Friday, December 12 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment Canton Corner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
