Canton High honored at annual breast cancer walk

Caitlyn Reynolds, Maddy Downey, Emerson Martin, Connor Wright, Soley Rodriquez Martinez, and Erin Bigham, who was selected to speak on behalf of the school, accept the fundraising award at this year’s breast cancer walk.

On Saturday, October 4, close to 100 Canton High School students gathered in front of the Rodman building decked out in pink and went into the Hatch Shell to complete the six-mile Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. CHS has been an integral part of the annual walk for the last 23 years.

In that time, the students have raised over $170,000, and this year had an extra-special meaning. Every year, the top high school teams are given plaques and the opportunity to speak to the thousands in attendance, and CHS was recognized as the top fundraising team for 2024, with senior Erin Bigham selected to speak on the school’s behalf. According to CHS career counselor and community service director Ed Amico, Bigham did not disappoint, addressing the assembled crowd with “such poise and eloquence.”

“These young adults are such an incredible example of giving back to others,” said Amico. “They are genuine, sincere, and awesome ambassadors of not only CHS but the whole Canton community.”
