Charles Robert Ayer, 94, of Canton, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Charlie was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary (Joyce), to whom he was married for 46 years. Charlie is survived by his daughter Susan Grafton and her husband, Glen, of Bridgewater; his much-loved grandchildren, Jack, Matthew and Abby Grafton; his son Robert (Bob) Ayer and his wife, Darcie, of Canton; loyal friend and grand-dog, Smith, and grand-cat, Wesson. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Geraldine Hurley and her husband, Mike; niece and nephews (Christine Clinton-Sinai and her husband, Nick, Stephen Clinton, and John McDonald and his wife, Christine; and several extended family members.

A proud U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War, Charlie was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 24 in Canton. Having served the post in various roles over the years, he leaves behind many cherished friends and fellow veterans from the Legion.

A funeral Mass will be held Thursday (today) at 10 a.m. in St. Oscar Romero Church in Canton, followed by his burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Canton. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that donations may be made to the American Legion Post 24, 950 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021 in memory of our beloved Charlie who found great camaraderie and purpose there.
