Carr, Richard ‘Ricky’

By

Richard “Ricky” Carr, of Canton, passed away peacefully at Care Dimensions Hospice House on August 25, 2025. Ricky lived life with a quiet strength and an unassuming grace, extended kindness to all those he met, and loved with his whole heart.

Born in Atlanta, GA, Ricky was the beloved son of William and Charlotte Carr. As a young child, he was raised in Atlanta along with his brother, Murray, and his sister, Pat. His family eventually moved to Canton. From that point on, Ricky was a proud Canton resident. He was an active parishioner at St. Oscar Romano Church (formerly St. John the Evangelist), where he was known for his steadfast faith and kind spirit.

Ricky graduated from the Horace Mann School for the Deaf, where he was a player on the high school’s inaugural basketball team. Throughout his schooling, Ricky developed a strong sense of resilience, an unwavering work ethic, and a life-long curiosity to learn more about topics of interest in the world around him. Those traits served him well throughout his life.

After graduation, Ricky went on to work at B&F Swiss Machining in Canton. When the company was purchased by AccuRounds in 1976, Ricky stayed on board. He remained a loyal employee of AccuRounds for over four decades. Ricky was a meticulously hard worker who took great pride in the work he did. He was the first recipient of the AccuRounds Golden Bar Award and Cutting Edge Award. Ricky poured his heart into his work, but what truly defined his career was the second family he found in his colleagues.

Ricky enjoyed traveling and exploring new cities. He was particularly fond of guided bus tours, which took him all over the country, from New York City to Atlanta to San Francisco. Ricky made a memorable journey to Canada, traveling by train. Yet his favorite trip by far was to visit England. No matter where he went, Ricky met new people and made friends for life.

Ricky loved the simple pleasures in life; reading his daily paper, drinking a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee with a coffee cake muffin, viewing a movie from his vast collection, stopping by his favorite pizza place on Friday nights to get a pizza, and watching all things sports. Although born in the south, Ricky was a loud and proud fan of all the New England sports teams. From the Red Sox to the Bruins, the Pats and the Celtics, he rooted for them all, making sure to wear his favorite coordinating baseball cap while watching the games. Ricky was equally as eager about college sports, quick to ask those around him for which team they were rooting and if they had the scores for the latest games.

Ricky took great joy in the company of his family. He loved and adored them, and they loved and adored him in return. Ricky was always up for a family gathering, especially if cake and ice cream were involved, and he delighted in celebrating holidays together. Those who were lucky enough to receive one know his Christmas cards were always the first to arrive.

Ricky was predeceased by his parents, William and Charlotte Carr, and his brother, William “Murray” Carr. He is survived by his beloved sister, Patricia Williamson, and her husband, Edward.

He was the cherished uncle of Beth Williamson-Ruse and her husband, Kevin Ruse, and Rebecca Williamson and her husband, Mark Mercure. Beloved great uncle of Thomas and William Ruse. He is also survived by his loving extended family members and his many treasured work friends and colleagues.

Rest in peace, Ricky. You leave behind a legacy of love, and your gentle spirit will live on in all who loved you. You will be missed beyond measure, yet you will continue to inspire all those who knew you, especially those of us fortunate enough to call you family. We love you to the moon and back.

Burial will be private. A celebration of Ricky’s life will be held at a future date with details to follow.

In honor of the goodwill Ricky shared with everyone he met, his family invites you to perform a random act of kindness in your community.
