Police continue to probe MV thefts & break-ins

By

Police are continuing to investigate a rash of stolen motor vehicles and car break-ins reported over the last few weeks in Canton. Last week, two more vehicles were reported stolen — one on Sherman Street and one on Maple Street — and both were later recovered by CPD detectives in Brockton. One week prior, two vehicles were reported stolen on Arboretum Way and another was reported stolen on Mechanic Street, while break-ins were reported on Waterfall Drive, Turnpike Street and Randolph Street. In all of the recent vehicle theft cases, the cars were left unlocked with the keys in them. Police are urging car owners to lock their doors and to remove their keys as well as any valuables from your vehicles.

Town announces fall paving projects

Paving on Bolivar Street was due to begin this week and is tentatively scheduled to last for approximately 4-6 weeks, wrapping up by early November. Additionally, the town announced that milling and paving work would begin on the following Canton streets on Monday, September 29: East Road, Kingsbury Road, Redman Road, Ridgehill Road, Talbot Road, Tilden Road and Wentworth Road. Residents will have access to their driveways during roadwork, but traffic delays and detours are to be expected and drivers should seek alternate routes. As with all roadwork projects, the schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.

Hydrant flushing program underway

The town of Canton recently announced the start of its semi-annual hydrant flushing program. Flushing will take place Monday through Thursday from 7-11 p.m. over the next six weeks, and residents may notice discolored water in varying degrees during this period across all sections of town. Those who do experience discolored water should flush their systems by opening a cold-water faucet for a few minutes and then wait for about an hour. If the water is still not clear, the flushing procedure should be repeated. The purpose of flushing hydrants is to clean pipes in the system, ensure chlorine residual to the ends of the system, and locate and repair maintenance problems.
