John Cranwell Downey, 64, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly on June 8, 2025.

John was a lifelong resident of Canton who attended Noble & Greenough School, where he was a member of the football and baseball teams and captain of the ski team. John then attended Williams College, where he was also a member of the Williams ski team. He subsequently obtained his Master of Business Administration from Babson College.

Over the course of his professional career, John was employed with Navtec, Buckley & Scott Oil Company, and Weathermark Investments. John was a lifelong member of the Hyannis Yacht Club and an active participant in offshore sailing events throughout the East Coast. His passion for skiing and offshore sailing was exceeded only by his interest in his children’s sports events, and he was a constant presence at their soccer games, baseball games and hockey matches.

John is predeceased by his loving parents, Charles and Jacqueline Downey, of Canton and is survived by his loving children, Megan and John Jr. “JJ,” and his brothers Charles Jr. of Hyannisport and Christopher of Houston, TX. John is survived by his former spouse, Caren Kulevich Downey, of Marblehead and his many nephews and nieces.

Visiting hours will take place on Thursday (today) from 4-7 p.m. in the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street, www.roache-pushard.com. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Oscar Romero Catholic Church, 600 Washington Street. Interment will be private.
