Thompson, Glenn W.

By

It is with profound sadness we share the passing of Glenn W. Thompson, who left us on May 19, 2025, at the age of 71. He passed away peacefully at his home in Cocoa Beach, Florida, surrounded by love.

Glenn, commonly known as “Hoppa,” grew up in Canton, one of eight children of Joseph and Evelyn Thompson. After graduating from Canton High School, he received an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Massasoit Community College, followed by a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts from Fitchburg University.

Glenn enjoyed many years of work in trades, ultimately choosing commercial and residential roofing as his specialty. In 1992, Glenn’s work focus shifted due to a tragic work accident, resulting in a spinal cord injury. He pursued recovery with a passion, which led him to participating in adaptive sports programs with an avid love for sled hockey and skiing and becoming vice president and later president of the NSCIA Boston Chapter. He was also an inspirational peer visitor and was involved in high school prevention programs.

In 1994, Glenn was blessed with the knowledge of a daughter, Jenni, whom he embraced and loved wholeheartedly. Glenn married the love of his life, Donna, in 1997 and gained a stepdaughter, Kara. Glenn and Donna resided in Reading before moving to Cocoa Beach, FL, where they spent the rest of their days together. Glenn was blessed with three grandsons, Dylan in 2008, Simon in 2011, and Bryson in 2017. Family and Friends meant everything to him.

Blessed with the gift of gab, he could light up a room. Glenn persevered through many life-altering challenges (diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2014) with resilience, strength and humor. He was an inspiration to many as he embodied optimism, positivity and grace.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Donna, daughter Jenni (Paul) Campbell of Chelsea, VT, stepdaughter Kara Secher of Reading, and grandsons Dylan, Simon and Bryson of Chelsea, VT. Also survived by seven siblings, Michael (Mary) Thompson of East Falmouth, Kevin (Esther) Thompson of Franklin, Robin Thompson of Hudson, FL, Dale Thompson (Howard Mutz) of San Francisco, CA, Gregg Thompson (Susan Orpin) of Quincy, Jean (Lora) Thompson of Canton, and Bryan Thompson of Brooksville, FL, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Donations in Glenn’s memory can be made to the Brevard Parkinson’s Alliance, the Cocoa Beach Community Paramedics Program, or SCI Boston. A celebration of life will be held at the Cocoa Beach Country Club on June 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a subsequent celebration planned for June 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Blue Hill Country Club in Canton. Island attire is requested at both.
