Lester, William F.
By Canton CitizenWilliam F. Lester, 70, of Wells, Maine, and Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Canton, passed away on October 6, 2024, after a long illness.
Billy was born and raised in Canton and graduated from Canton High. He graduated from Northern Essex Community College with honors and worked for many years as a registered respiratory therapist.
Billy was a very social, happy guy. He loved everything about his hometown of Canton. He enjoyed running into friends and talking about all kinds of sports. Whether it be football, hockey or baseball, it didn’t matter; Billy knew all the stats. His proudest moments were coaching his sons Billy Jr. and Brian’s athletic teams. He coached lacrosse and hockey. He would be in his glory watching them play and compete.
For many years he would look forward to the spring when he could play softball for the Canton Men’s Softball League. He was also a longtime member of the Randolph Ski Club, where he met his wife, Claire. He liked traveling and had recently ventured on a cruise to Alaska and Canada with his wife. We will all miss him and his big smile!
Billy was the son of the late William F. Lester Sr. and Margaret (Shea) Lester. He is survived by his wife, Claire (Boland) Lester, of Wells, ME, and Leesburg, FL, and his sons Bill Lester III and Brian Lester and fiancée Katherine Swett of Manchester, NH. Also survived by his siblings Donald (Claire) Lester of Plymouth, Karen (Greg) Anderson of Stuart, FL, Chipper (Lori) Lester of Cape Coral, FL, Jean (Jim) Clougherty of Melrose, and Tricia (Eric) Weigel of Charlestown, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life for Billy will be held on Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at the Canton Town Club.
