Sheila A. McCabe, 93, a cherished matriarch and beacon of love and resilience, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, in Stoughton. Born on March 26, 1932, in Boston, Sheila was the daughter of the late John and Dymphna Stafford and grew up in the close-knit community of South Boston.

Sheila’s life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to family, faith, and community. As a proud graduate of Gate of Heaven High School, she carried the values of her education throughout her life. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. McCabe, and together they built a life rich in love and laughter. Sheila’s devotion to her family knew no bounds. She was the loving mother of Maryann Morrice and her husband, Charles, Robert McCabe Jr. and his wife, Joanne, Sheila Gendrolius and her husband, Paul, Paul McCabe and his wife, Karen, Michael McCabe and his wife, Karen, Edward McCabe and his wife, Sue, Eileen Calvi and her husband, Paul, Kathryn Cunningham and her husband, Tom, and she held dear the memory of her late son Joseph McCabe.

Sheila’s love extended beyond her immediate family to her siblings, Brendan Stafford of Dennisport, the late Joseph Stafford, and the late Dymphna Stafford. Her role as a grandmother to 18 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 11 great-grandchildren was one she embraced with joy and pride. She was predeceased by her grandson Joseph McCabe.

Professionally, Sheila served as a dedicated secretary for Milton Public Schools, where she was known for her efficiency, warm smile, and the kindness she extended to all. Her work was more than a job; it was an extension of her caring nature, leaving a lasting impact on her colleagues and the many lives she touched.

A resident of Canton for 63 years, Sheila’s involvement in her community was a reflection of her deep faith and commitment to service. She was an active member of St. Oscar Romero Church, where she nurtured her spiritual life and offered support to others. Her participation in the Canton Catholic Women’s Club and the St. Gerard Majella prayer group were among the many ways she exercised her faith in action.

Sheila’s interests and talents were diverse and brought joy to many. In her younger years, she was part of a singing group at Marion Manor in South Boston, where her beautiful voice and spirited performances were cherished. Her love for music was a thread woven through the fabric of her life, bringing harmony to both her family and her community.

Sheila A. McCabe’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and unwavering faith. Her life’s journey, marked by the bonds she forged and the lives she uplifted, will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her. Sheila’s spirit, characterized by her generosity and vivacious personality, will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were graced by her presence.

As we bid farewell to Sheila, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that will forever be remembered. Her story is not one of an end, but a continuation through the memories and love she has left behind.

Visiting hours on Sunday, April 13, from 2-6 p.m. at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 14, at 10 a.m. in St. Oscar Romero Church. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
