Dr. Joseph A. Klawsnik, 82, known to family and friends as Joe, passed away on September 8, 2026, in Canton after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 26, 1944, in College Station, Texas, Joe grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and Haddonfield, NJ. He lived a life marked by intelligence, generosity, and deep devotion to the people he loved.

Joe was the beloved husband of Dr. Holly Ramsey-Klawsnik and the proud father of Attorney Lisa Klawsnik and Dr. Bethany Polnar. He was also a cherished father-in-law to Dan Polnar, a devoted grandfather to Henry, Sean and Lily Klawsnik Polnar, and a loving dog dad to his golden retriever, Ginger. His family was the center of his life, and he found great joy in every gathering, every shared meal, and every moment spent together. He gave his love freely and steadily, and those who knew him will remember his warmth, his humor, and his unwavering support.

Joe earned his bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, his master’s degree from Temple University, and his PhD in psychology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His academic path reflected both his intellect and his commitment to understanding and helping others. He carried that dedication into his professional life, where he became a respected clinical psychologist in private practice.

Throughout his career, Joe spent many years working with families, children, and couples. He approached his work with compassion, insight, and a sincere desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Clients and colleagues alike valued his thoughtful guidance and steady presence. He was a longtime member of the American Psychological Association and served as past president and a long-term member of the Massachusetts Association of Guardians ad Litem. His professional contributions reflected his deep belief in advocacy, responsibility, and care for vulnerable individuals and families.

Outside of his work, Joe lived life with energy and enthusiasm. In his younger years, he was an avid skier and scuba diver, and he embraced adventure with the same spirit that guided so much of his life. He loved to travel, both internationally and across the United States, especially when exploring new places with his wife. These journeys created treasured memories and reflected the close partnership they shared throughout their marriage.

Joe especially cherished family vacations on Cape Cod during the summer. Those days were filled with sunshine, laughter, and the simple joys of being together. He also loved boating and fishing on the pond with his daughter Bethany and his grandchildren, moments that brought him great happiness and allowed him to share his love of the outdoors with the next generation. He delighted in going to Red Sox and Bruins games with his daughter Lisa, and those outings became beloved traditions that will be remembered with affection.

In the kitchen, Joe was known as the family chef. He took great pride in preparing beautiful holiday meals, and he approached each celebration with care and creativity. His meals were more than food. They were expressions of love, generosity, and togetherness. The traditions he created around the table will remain a lasting part of his family’s story.

Joe will be remembered as a man of remarkable intelligence, generosity, and love. He lived with purpose and integrity, and he touched the lives of many through both his professional work and his personal devotion to family and friends. His legacy lives on in the people he loved, in the lives he helped shape, and in the countless memories shared by those fortunate enough to know him.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Josephine (Rotundo) Klawsnik, and his brother Bronny Klawsnik. He is survived by his loving wife, his daughters, his son-in-law, his grandchildren, and his beloved golden retriever, all of whom will carry his memory forward with gratitude and affection. Though he is no longer with them, the example he set and the love he gave will continue to guide and comfort those who mourn his passing.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, on Friday, September 11, from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be private for family.
