Heinrich “Heinz” Ewald Baum passed away on Thursday, April 2, at the age of 85.

Heinz was born in Borghorst, Germany, in June 1940 to Johann and Cecilia Baum. He moved to the United States in 1961 and was subsequently drafted to serve his new country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He later joined the Massachusetts National Guard and served in operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm at the age of 50. Once he retired from the military, he proudly served in the Canton Honor Guard.

Heinz spent 30 years as a carpenter at Brockton Hospital, where he met his wife, Joan.

Heinz leaves behind his beloved wife of over 40 years, Joan Ambroceo; his children, Robert (Monica) of Hingham and Alexandra (James) Frazier of Bridgewater; and grandchildren Hannah, Owen, Emma and Mia.

Heinz is also survived by his sisters Julia Brinkhaus of Needham and Mia Fischer of Steinfurt, Germany.

He is predeceased by his two brothers, Hans and Werner, and his sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Bobby Mack, of Brockton.

Visiting hours were held at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, on Monday, April 6. A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, April 7, in St. Oscar Romero Church in Canton. Burial at Canton Corner Cemetery.
