Bob Maffie announces candidacy for Planning Board
By GuestSubmitted by the Committee to Elect Robert Maffie
Mr. Robert E. Maffie has submitted the required certified signatures to place his name on the ballot for town of Canton Planning Board. Signatures have been verified by the Town Clerk and Maffie will now seek his first elected office in the April 7 election. Maffie has been a Canton resident for more than 50 years and looks to draw on his experience to help the town in any way possible.
Maffie is a licensed electrician and proud graduate of Blue Hills Regional School with a diploma in carpentry. He has an associate’s degree in civil and structural technology and brings more than 40 years of construction and development experience to a growing town. Maffie’s extensive construction knowledge includes OSHA certifications, fire alarm qualification, underground utility expertise, and a Construction Supervisor License. Maffie is “excited to bring practical knowledge to a hardworking board, which will face serious construction and development challenges in the years ahead.”
“I will be ready to participate in meaningful discussions on day one,” he said. “Bigger is not always better in development, as thoughtful and deliberate planning must incorporate an analysis of the quality of life for all residents.”
Maffie seeks to bring an independent voice to the future of Canton.
Maffie and his wife, Lisa, raised their two sons in Canton, Anthony and Austin, both graduates of Canton Public Schools. Maffie is a former baseball and basketball coach and active in the Canton men’s softball league. He coached and mentored valuable skills to both boys, as well as their teammates. Anthony was studying nursing at Curry College when Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy or SUDEP, stole him at the age of 22. Bob, Lisa and Austin have worked tirelessly to raise funds in Anthony’s honor, raising much-needed public awareness and money to support SUDEP and epilepsy research.
Bob and Lisa have also raised thousands of dollars for Canton veterans and the town’s veterans memorials. Maffie is known to many as the “flag guy” for his consistent work honoring town of Canton veterans with memorial flags and flowers. His altruistic nature and hard work are often in the background of many town events, rarely taking credit for his good deeds.
As an advocate for improved learning environments, Maffie will actively seek new and improved spaces for all classes and input on necessary investment and upkeep of older buildings. He will also advocate for older residents to remain in Canton and continue to contribute to their hometown.
“Canton is blessed to have a strong tax base, multiple fields, caring citizens, dedicated educators, abundant natural resources, safe streets, and residents who care about the future of the town,” Maffie said. “I will work hard to ensure a bright future for all.”
Maffie seeks your input on all town planning issues and respectfully asks for your vote in the April 7 election. Thank you.
