Mike Loughran is kicking off his campaign for State Representative for the 6th Norfolk District.
Loughran is inviting the community to join him for a campaign kick-off event on Thursday, March 19, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Brookmeadow Country Club, 100 Everendon Road, in Canton. All are welcome to come support the campaign, meet Loughran and learn more.
Coinciding with this announcement, Loughran launched his new campaign website, Mike4StateRep.com. The campaign website will provide the community with the latest updates about the campaign, including information about the March 19 campaign kick-off and other upcoming events.
Loughran has also established several social media pages to share updates and information about the campaign, including a Facebook page and Instagram account.
Loughran, a Canton native with 16 years of municipal leadership experience, is running as a Democrat following the decision of longtime State Representative William C. Galvin not to seek re-election after serving the district since 1991.
Loughran is running under the banner of “Proven Leadership. Real Results.” That’s because the Loughran campaign is focusing on practical state-level solutions that directly benefit Canton, Avon and Stoughton.
“For 16 years, I have seen firsthand how Beacon Hill decisions affect our schools, taxes, roads, housing and public safety,” Loughran said. “Simply put, I am running to bring steady, experienced leadership to the State House — focused on families, not politics.”
Loughran’s record of local leadership includes service on Canton’s Finance Committee, School Committee and Select Board. During his time in office, Loughran helped strengthen municipal budgets, supported the delivery of free full-day kindergarten, advanced the Galvin Middle School project, expanded youth athletic programming, supported small businesses and downtown revitalization, and helped Canton achieve a Green Community designation. During the campaign, Loughran will continue to serve Canton as a member of the Select Board, fighting hard on behalf of town residents.
His campaign priorities include:
* Infrastructure investment and traffic relief
* Predictable school funding and opposition to unfunded mandates
* Workforce housing for teachers and town employees
* Public safety and emergency response funding
* Responsible housing policy and downtown revitalization
* Proper maintenance of state-owned assets, including Ponkapoag Golf Course and Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital
Loughran said his commitment to public service is personal. Whether it be working to create the first girls fastpitch softball program in Canton, or supporting his father during his battle with Parkinson’s disease, Loughran believes his experiences in both politics and personal life have given him a greater understanding of the challenges so many families face with raising families, healthcare, and aging with dignity.
“This experience continues to inspire my work to help improve conditions for other families,” Loughran said.
Loughran wants his candidacy to build upon the legacy of Representative Galvin by bringing proven municipal experience to Beacon Hill at a time when local communities face mounting fiscal and infrastructure challenges.
“Our district deserves experienced leadership that understands municipal government firsthand,” Loughran said. “I have built budgets, hired leadership, negotiated agreements and delivered results. I am ready to bring that experienced leadership to the State House.”
Throughout his time in municipal office, Loughran received strong support from public safety, tradespeople, teachers, municipal employees, public works professionals and community members.
“Join our campaign to keep experienced leadership in place at the State House to fight for our communities,” Loughran said. “This campaign isn’t about ideology. For me, this is common sense, not politics. It’s about keeping experienced local leadership at work in the State House for our towns. Let’s get to work!”
