After decades of public service professionally and to the town of Canton, Lisa Lopez is excited to announce her candidacy for state representative, representing the 6th District Norfolk, comprising Canton, Avon and parts of Stoughton.

“These are not ordinary times, for our nation, the commonwealth, and our communities,” Lopez said. “It’s a moment where citizens across the country are deciding to stand up for what they believe in, evaluating where they can serve. I’ve decided this is where I can make a difference, and commit to making the serious, full-time commitment that constituents deserve.”

Lopez is a lifelong Democrat and 42-year resident of Canton. A Yale Law School graduate, she spent most of her career as an executive and chief legal officer at then Braintree-based Haemonetics Corporation, a global medical device company that improved surgical and cancer patient outcomes. During almost 25 years there she held many responsibilities beyond legal, including for human resources, employee health and safety, clinical and regulatory affairs, investor relations, and internal audit. Post retirement, Lopez volunteered as a pro bono immigration attorney.

Hard work and results have marked Lopez’ public service career. She championed Canton’s adoption of the Community Preservation Act, serving as the initial committee chair for many years, as well as the creation of the impressive Paul Revere Heritage Site which depended on CPA funds. Even after the determination that a new town pool could not be financed by CPA, she worked tirelessly to win community support for the ballot question to support this popular public amenity. While serving on the Canton Select Board, keeping her sites on planned sustainable growth, energy efficiency and affordability, she championed Canton’s adoption of a municipal energy aggregation program (known as Canton Electrical Choice) and creation of an Affordable Housing Trust to combat housing instability routinely experienced by seniors, veterans, disabled adults and young families who are trying to break into the housing market.

During covid years, she collaborated with the Department of Health and other municipal employees to zoom regular informational sessions to residents and to distribute free vaccines throughout the community. “Covid was frightening. But it demonstrated Canton at its best. Municipal employees and residents pulled together to keep everyone safe,” explained Lopez.

In 2024 Lopez was elected to Canton’s Housing Authority, garnering the highest number of votes of any candidate that year in a local contested election. She currently serves as its chair. Most recently, Lopez has been beating the drums as co-leader of Move the Vote, a grassroots initiative which collected over 2,000 signatures and managed a hugely successful ballot campaign to align the timing of local elections with state elections in November to increase voter turnout.

Canton Select Board vice chair Trish Boyden said “I’m endorsing Lisa Lopez. She has accomplished so much in moving Canton forward. For me, it’s her instrumental role in getting the Community Preservation Act passed in 2012, and then turning the Plymouth Rubber site into the Paul Revere Heritage Site.”

Canton Select Board member Susan Harrington added, “I am delighted to offer my endorsement of Lisa’s candidacy. She has consistently demonstrated exceptional service to our community in both elected and volunteer roles. Her intelligence, expertise, analytical thinking and unwavering commitment will be significant assets to the entire 6th Norfolk district.”

19-year Canton resident Jeff Sullivan said, “Lisa does not just talk about change. She creates it. She inspired me to step up and improve the community where we live, having been the catalyst behind our annual Town Wide Cleanup now involving hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers and supporters. She challenges people to contribute. She builds momentum. She follows through.” The Democratic Primary is September 1, 2026, followed by the general election on November 3, 2026.
