The undefeated Canton boys clinched their second consecutive Hockomock Davenport Division title and the girls team made it two wins in their last three meets in another strong week for the Bulldog swim program.

The two squads are now 8-0 and 3-5, respectively, and were due to host King Philip Regional in their regular season finale this week before moving on to the league championships on Friday and Saturday at Milford High School.

In action last week, the Bulldogs split their meet against nonleague Dedham, with the boys winning 99-70 and the girls falling 94-81 at the Dedham Town Pool. The girls then rebounded with an 89-67 victory at Stoughton, and the boys also won comfortably over the Black Knights, 75-46.

In the Stoughton meet, the Canton boys swept several events, including the 200 freestyle behind Timothy Tseng, Alvin Nieh and Brendan Holloran; the 200 IM (Ronin Ricks, Jayden He, Rony Salazar); the 50 free (Ryan Hickey, Maris Veidis, Anderson Lee); the 100 free (Lee, Aiden Pham, Nieh); the 100-yard butterfly (Maddox Carbone, Tseng, Nick Murphy); the 500 free (Murphy, Holloran, Ben Caccioppo); and the 100 breaststroke (Veidis, He, Salazar).

The boys also placed first in all three relays — the 200 medley (Pham, Ricks, Carbone, Lee), 200 free (Veidis, Tseng, Carbone, Hickey) and 400 free (Carbone, Ricks, Pham, Lee) — and took three of the top four spots in the 100-yard backstroke behind Ricks, Pham and Hickey.

Several team members have also punched their tickets to the postseason, including Ricks, who has qualified for sectionals and states in the breaststroke, 200 IM, and as a member of the 200 medley and 200 free relays; Veidis, who has qualified for sectionals in the breaststroke and states in the 200 free relay; and Pham, who recently qualified for sectionals in the 100 back and is part of the state-qualifying medley relay.

On the girls’ side, top performers against Stoughton included freshman Anna Lamme, who won both the 200 IM and breaststroke; Caitlyn Reynolds, who took first in the 100 free and second in the 50 free; and Maya Mitrea, who placed runner-up in both the 500 free and backstroke. Also scoring top finishes were Georgia Rae, who won the 200 free as part of a Canton sweep that included teammates Maisy Sykes and Julia Manzi; the first-place 200 free relay team of Keira Yu, Lamme, Daphne Bui and Reynolds; and the winning 400 free relay team of Mitrea, Yu, Veronica Lykov and Rae.

Only a sophomore and already a varsity lineup fixture, Ricks picked up where he left off after a stellar rookie campaign and has been one of the Bulldogs’ most consistent performers, leading the team to an 8-0 record and a second straight Davenport Division title. He has been particularly impressive in the 200 IM and breaststroke while also playing a key role on several of the team’s top relays — including the state-qualifying 200 medley and 200 freestyle groups. “Ronin is such a talented swimmer and he will swim any stroke,” said head coach Cheryl Cavanaugh. “He’s so coachable, he’s dedicated to his sport, and he’s a real hard worker.”
