It was a productive week for the CHS boys basketball team, as the Bulldogs beat Taunton 62-59 and Stoughton 61-49 before falling to Milton Sunday 47-46 in the last minute of play. Canton is 5-6 and currently in third place in the Davenport Division as of Sunday.

A week ago, the Bulldog faced the Wildcats at Milton High School and were soundly defeated 60-39. The tables were turned Sunday morning as Canton went back and forth with Milton, actually taking the lead 46-45 on a Vlad Francoeur jumper. The game came down to the last 12 seconds when the Canton defender went for a steal but missed, and Milton’s forward-center Osiage Odion Ukpebor scored on a drive with less than a second remaining.

Despite the final result, Milton head coach Billy Donovan came away greatly impressed with Canton’s effort. “We executed better in the fourth quarter, but give Canton plenty of credit,” he said. “They played hard, tough, made it a physical game, and they play very tough defense.”

Milton is now 8-4 and ranked 13th in the MIAA Division 2 power rankings.

Kiser came away disappointed after the Milton loss. “We have to be more consistent all the time,” he said. “We have to be better focused, but our effort was fantastic.”

JJ Faulk played great defense and led the Canton offense with 12 points while Francoeur chipped in with eight points.

In the Stoughton win Friday at home, the Bulldogs led throughout the game and played consistent two-way basketball. The scoring was balanced with guard Elias Palacios finishing with 14, Miles Jereb and Ben Secord adding 10 points apiece, and Marcus Serjani netting six. “Our energy was really good tonight,” said Kiser. “We are starting to jell as a team, and our communication is getting better.”

Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs traveled to Taunton and escaped with a 62-59 win. Taunton cut a nine-point deficit to one with 14 seconds left. Great team defense and a key rebound by Palacios and two free throws secured the win. Jereb led the way with 14 points, five rebounds, and two blocks and Faulk also tallied 14 points. Ryan Maxis had 10 points, Francoeur added nine, and Tadg Howard scored eight points in the win.

The Bulldogs have a challenging week ahead with games against Franklin Tuesday and at home Friday night against Mansfield at 6:30 p.m.
