Marcell, Bigham named Citizen MVPs

The Canton Citizen is pleased to announce its MVP selections for the fall 2025 season. Writeups for all of the fall all-stars, along with team photos and season recaps, appeared in the January 22 print edition as part of our annual fall sports wrap-up.

Boys MVP

Jake Marcell (Football)

A senior captain, Marcell was the ultimate versatile weapon for this year’s CHS football squad, impacting the game in all three phases as a pass catcher, rusher, linebacker and punter. On defense, he was a game wrecker at linebacker and was voted by the league’s coaches as the defensive MVP of the Davenport Division. He was a huge part of the team’s run to the state Final Four, scoring multiple touchdowns, and he was chosen by his teammates to wear the No. 27 jersey on Thanksgiving in honor of former Bulldog legend Ricky Shannon. “Jake played to the best of his ability at all positions,” noted interim coach Jeff Eckler. “A very coachable player, he always put the team first and was a true team leader.”

Girls MVP

Erin Bigham (Volleyball)

A senior captain and a true program legend, Bigham wrapped up an incredible four-year varsity career with another stellar season, leading the Bulldogs to the Division 2 Elite Eight while earning Hockomock Davenport Division MVP honors. She was also one of 18 players across the state to be named to the MAVCA D2 All-State team and became just the eighth player in Massachusetts history to record 2,000 career assists. “Erin is one of the most skilled players to ever suit up for the CHS volleyball team,” said head coach Pat Cawley. “She is the quarterback of our team, but her defense, serving, hitting and blocking are all at elite levels.”

Field Hockey: Shannon Lane, Carolyn Schiavo, Cassidy Lyons, Shealyn Murphy

Boys Cross Country: Lauren Raffetto, Lexi Piazza, Addy Azar, Isabella Holland

Girls Cross Country: Tristan Grant, Minh Hong
