Canton’s Chloe Dubuisson races into the record books

By

The CHS girls indoor track team opened up its winter campaign with a 58-42 win over Stoughton at the New Balance Track in what head coach Anna Amico described as a total team effort with “every athlete and event group stepping up and contributing” against a strong Black Knights team.

Chloe Dubuisson is poised to add to her trophy case this winter.

Senior captain Chloe Dubuisson led the Bulldogs with three first-place finishes, accounting for 15 of the team’s points and breaking two school records in the process.

The records came in the 55-meter hurdles, where Dubuisson posted a blazing time of 8.79 seconds, and the 300-meter race, where she cruised to the gold in 42.25 seconds. Both performances were also strong enough to qualify for the MIAA state meet.

Other first-place finishers for Canton included Isabella Holland in the 1,000 meters; Maddie Driscoll in the mile; Natalie Hales in the two-mile; Isanayah Rene in the long jump; and Dubuisson in the shot put.

In both the two-mile and long jump, the Bulldogs swept the top three spots, with Margot Swearingen and Driscoll placing 2-3 behind Hales in the former event and Gianna Mallei and Katherine Podgurski finishing right behind Rene in the latter.

Also scoring points for Canton in the win were Nora Giannacopoulos, 2nd, 600m; Allie Carty, 3rd, 1,000m; Elena Silva, 2nd, and Katherine Dervan, 3rd, mile; Laurisa Sindor, 2nd, and Shannon Dervan, 3rd, high jump; and Nyomi Faulk, 2nd, shot put.

The team has five senior captains this season: Dubuisson, Giannacopoulos, Driscoll, Lexi Piazza, and Sophia Pankevych.

“Our five captains as well as our upperclassmen have shown great leadership to start the season, and we will rely on their leadership, experience, and energy,” noted Amico. “This year’s team returns to a great mix of many contributors and newcomers looking to make an impact. The girls have been working hard to start the season to improve both physically and mentally and to grow together as a team. There is much potential with this group, and I feel the sky is the limit for what they can achieve.”

Next up for the Bulldogs is a tri-meet against Mansfield and North Attleboro on Thursday, January 8, followed by another Davenport Division showdown with Oliver Ames on January 15. All regular season meets take place at the New Balance Track in Boston with a start time of 4 p.m.
