CHS Drama presents ‘The Outsiders’ Nov. 14-16

The curtain goes up this weekend for the Canton High School theater company’s performance of The Outsiders. The stage play is based on S.E. Hinton’s coming of age novel about two teenage gangs in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1965.

“It’s a story our students know and love,” said performing arts teacher Maureen Regan. “It’s a book they all read in eighth grade, and one they’ve been requesting to perform for a long time. It’s a timeless story about identity, belonging, and resilience — themes that strongly resonate with our students and their experiences growing up today.

“I have loved working with this group; their creativity, empathy, and dedication have brought so much heart to this production, and I couldn’t be prouder of the work they’ve done.”

There are 34 students in the cast, and another 60 students are on the production team. Regan said the set was designed and built by Anne Grady and Brian Vogel, with student crew heads Miranda Grady and Alvis Huang leading the set crew. Costumes have been designed and distributed by Sue Harrington, with Abigail Mulkern and Zoya Gildenberg serving as the student costume crew heads.

Performances of The Outsiders will be held in the CHS auditorium on Friday and Saturday, November 14 and 15, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 16, at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online for $12 each at cantontheater.ludus.com, or at the door for $15.
